Amistad
During the year 1839, the slave ship Amistad set sail from Cuba to the United States. During the lengthy journey, Cinque leads the slaves in an unparalleled uprising, which is recorded in history. They are subsequently taken into custody in Connecticut, where their eventual release is the subject of considerable discussion and controversy. To have Cinque and the others cleared of all charges, freed slave Theodore Joadson hires property lawyer Roger Baldwin to assist him in his endeavor. Eventually, John Quincy Adams joins the party as an ally as well.
