Benediction
Siegfried Sassoon (1886–1967) was awarded for valor on the Western Front and is famous for his indignant and empathetic poems about World War I. Sassoon avoided the romanticism and jingoism of many war poets and satirized generals, politicians, and churchmen for their incompetence and support of the war.
