Black Is … Black Ain’t
Marlon Riggs was working on this final picture when he died of AIDS-related problems in1994. In numerous moments, he addresses the camera from his hospital bed. The video directly targets sexism and homophobia in the black community by juxtaposing misogynistic and anti-gay obscenities from hip-hop lyrics with interviews with African-American intellectuals and political theorists, including Cornel West, bell hooks, and Angela Davis.
