The Profession of Arms
In the fall of 1526, Emperor Charles V sends Georg von Frundsberg to lead his German landsknechts on a march toward Rome. Giovanni de'Medici leads the weaker papal armies as they try to chase them away during a harsh winter. Still, the Lords of the Imperial armies make sure that they can cross the rivers on their way and get cannons. During a fight, a falconet shot hurts Giovanni de'Medici in the leg. He dies despite everyone's best efforts to help him. Rome is attacked by armies from the Empire. The movie is set in a beautiful but unassuming place, and it shows how hard and pointless war is. It ends directly when, after Giovanni de'Medici's death, the leaders of the armies in Europe say they will never use fire weapons again because they are cruel.
