The Red Baron
Richthofen joins the tens of thousands of other soldiers who have gone off to fight in the war. The warriors on the battlefields regard them as cult heroes because of their accomplishments as fighter pilots. They have their own code of honour, which is characterized by sportsmanlike conduct, technical exactitude, and knightly decorum. He quickly realizes that his hero status is misleading and that he must change his ways. Because of his feelings for Kate, a nurse, he begins to see more clearly the horrors of war.
