American Gladiators
NBC and Citytv in Canada aired American Gladiators, an American competition television show. "Gladiators" (Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali) host a show that pits amateur athletes against each other as well as against the "gladiators." It's a remake of the 1989–1996 original series of the same name, with some nods to the 1990s UK version. Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story also features a renowned former umpire as the show's referee, Al Kaplon. Van Earl Wright provides the play-by-play narration. At Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California, where the first season was filmed. Los Angeles Sports Arena hosted Season 2 of the show. Reveille Productions and MGM Television are behind the show. The two-hour premiere of American Gladiators drew an estimated 12 million viewers on Sunday, January6, 2008. On February17,2008, the conclusion of Season 1 aired at 7:00 PM ET/PT instead of 8:00 PM ET/PT on Mondays. NBC broadcast the first two-hour episode of Season 2 on May12, 2008. On August4,2008, at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT, the two-hour Season 2 finale aired. There were three semifinal rounds and three finals in the second season finale, which was less than half as long as season one's two-hour broadcast.
