Collision
Collision is a five-part television drama miniseries that premiered in November 2009 on ITV and UTV. It aired as a two-part series on PBS in the same month. It depicts the story of a group of strangers whose lives become intertwined after a tragic vehicle accident. The crash reveals government cover-ups, smuggling, embezzlement, and murder. The series is open-ended, with unsolved issues; the story is purportedly resolved in a metafictional fashion with a flashback to a service station event and the swatting of a wasp, which precipitates the original crash and allows the protagonists to continue on their adventures. The wasp appears regularly throughout the series as a motif and topic. Collision's original broadcast in the United Kingdom was cut from five hours to three and a half hours. The abbreviated version was shown in the American broadcast on PBS's Masterpiece Contemporary, the Australian broadcast on ABC1 and the Region 1 DVD release. Collision premiered in its original version of five 45-minute episodes on Foxtel and Austar's W Channel in Australia on Tuesday, March 15, 2011.
