Doctor Finlay
The short stories written by A. J. Cronin about the fictitious hero Dr. Finlay served as the inspiration for the television show Doctor Finlay, which airs in the United Kingdom. This book is a continuation of Dr. Finlay's Casebook, which was a popular BBC series. The action takes place in the 1940s, just after John Finlay had returned from serving in the military. Early plotlines involve the establishment of the new National Health Service as well as the modernization of the medical practice located at Arden House in Tannochbrae, which is located in Scotland. David Rintoul plays the role of Dr. Finlay on the show, and Ian Bannen plays his practice partner Dr. Cameron, who is semi-retired. Annette Crosbie plays Dr. Finlay's housekeeper Janet. Other important characters include Finlay's assistant, Dr. Neil, who is portrayed by Jason Flemyng, and Finlay's new colleague, Dr. Napier, who is portrayed by Jessica Turner. Both of these characters are portrayed in the show by Jessica Turner. The series is a production of Scottish Television and was shot in Auchtermuchty, which is located in the Scottish county of Fife. In the United States, it was broadcast on the Masterpiece Theatre program on PBS.
