Despite the challenges in their way, they strive to rebuild their self-esteem in order to have a bright future. Other plot components center on the novelist Elizabeth Ashton, who arrives in a little coastal hamlet. The newbie who is unaware of any underlying racial tensions is viewed with a degree of distrust. This naiveté facilitates her friendship with Vincent Burunga, a local Aborigine.
