Minder
There is a British comedy-drama series called "Minder" about the criminal underground in the city of London. It was first produced by Verity Lambert and then remade by Euston Films, a Thames Television subsidiary, before being broadcast on ITV. Dennis Waterman portrayed Terry McCann, an honest and likeable bodyguard; George Cole portrayed Arthur Daley, an ambitious but dishonest importer-exporter and wholesaler, used-car salesman and anything else from which money could be made whether or not it was legal. The show aired for ten series between October29,1979, and March10, 1994. The show was largely responsible for popularizing the term "minder," which means a personal bodyguard, in the British and Australian lexicons. Winchester Club owner and bartender Dave often worked as a sort of message machine for Arthur and turned a blind eye to his dubious business practices. At its zenith, the show was one of ITV's biggest ratings winners, featuring a diverse cast that included several well-known British actors as well as numerous up-and-coming performers. Even though no members of the original cast will feature in the new episodes, it was confirmed in 2008 that Minder would go into production for transmission in 2009. In the new series, Shane Richie portrayed Arthur's nephew, Archie, who was played by the actor. On February 4, 2009, the series premiered. It was reported in 2010 that no new episodes will be produced as a result of the first series' lackluster reception.
