POV
POV is a public television series produced by the Public Broadcasting Service that features independent nonfiction films. POV is an abbreviation for point of view. POV is television's longest-running showcase for independent documentary films. Each year, PBS airs 14-16 POV programs, and the series has introduced nearly 300 films to US television audiences since 1988. POV's films are marked by a strong first-person, social-issue emphasis. Many well-known directors have had their work screened as part of the POV series, including Michael Moore, Jonathan Demme, Terry Zwigoff, Errol Morris, Albert and David Maysles, Michael Apted, Frederick Wiseman, Marlon Riggs, and Ross McElwee. POV programs have also won three Oscars, 32 Emmys, 36 Cine Golden Eagles, 15 Peabody Awards, 11 Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Awards, the Prix Italia, and the Webby Award.
