Total Wipeout
The debut episode of the British game show Total Wipeout aired on January3,2009, with Richard Hammond and Amanda Byram serving as the show's hosts. Twenty contestants participate in a variety of challenges each week in an effort to win the weekly prize of £10,000. These challenges typically include competitors traversing vast obstacle courses and are typically centered on large pools of mud or water. Participants may also be required to wade through water. Total Wipeout is a licensed adaptation of Wipeout, a game show produced by Endemol that was first broadcast in the United States in2008. The name of the new show was modified somewhat to prevent confusion with an earlier installment of a game show of the same name produced by the BBC. The BBC announced on March 29th, 2012 that they will not be continuing the show Total Wipeout after its sixth season. According to an article published in the Daily Mirror, a BBC spokesperson was quoted as saying the following: "After four very successful series of Total Wipeout and one series of Winter Wipeout, the BBC has taken the decision that the next series, which is due to transmit later this year, will be the last." The airing of the final ten episodes of Series 5 began on August18,2012, bringing the show's four-year run on BBC One to a close before 2013.
